This reduces the distance dwarves need to travel to drop-off/pick-up items. Also smaller stockpiles: instead of one massive stockpile, split it up into 4 or more smaller stockpiles. Vertical layouts tend to be a good solution. Pathfinding is probably the biggest factor, then water flows. Also, as far as I know, DF is 32-bit which also has some downsides compared to 64-bit apps. There are also probably numerous other gameplay tips and DFhack commands that will help but these are the ones I keep in mind and use most regularly.įirst, DF is single thread application, so multi-core CPU's won't benefit from it. Although my reasoning is that better graphics use up just a little more memory than ASCII so it must make some difference somewhere. These are just some things that I do to reduce FPS, a lot of it seems to have worked but some of it might be superstition, particularly the graphics stuff.
